After several months of collaborative meetings with the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC), who receives the funding for C-CARTS rural transportation system, and the C-U MTD, who contracts with CCRPC to operate the system, the Village Board has agreed to fund half the operating costs for a 3-van fixed route system. The route will run mostly east-west through the Village, starting at 5a-8a and 3p-6p, and is planned to have stops at major industrial employers, retail areas and residential areas.
The Champaign County Board and the CUMTD still have to formally approve the arrangement, which will be funded half by federal transportation dollars and half by Village of Rantoul Motor Fuel Tax Receipts. The tentative launch date is Fall, 2016.
This transportation system is being planned to assist Rantoul's residents and employers improve their quality of life. Early resident feedback has been positive and employers are looking forward to improving the reliability of their workforce.
